There is no single EU-wide maximum temperature limit for horse racing. Racing is governed by national authorities. However, under general EU animal transport laws, the maximum temperature permitted inside horse transport vehicles for long journeys is regulated.
Key Thresholds & Regulations Racing Limits:
When ambient temperatures reach 30°C, authorities mandate strict hot weather provisions (e.g., extra cooling stations, mobile water). Races are generally abandoned or postponed if ambient temperatures hit 35°C to 38°C or if regional weather warnings are elevated to extreme levels.
POLAND: Racing Adjustments:
Once temperatures exceed 30°C, racecourses (like those in Warsaw/ Służewiec) apply localized hot-weather policies.
Extreme Heat Modifications:
If the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) exceeds 28°C or ambient air temperature surpasses 35°C, Polish stewards may delay events, implement mandatory cooling stations, or abandon meetings.
